Perryville, MO claims second straight CIT Championship, beats host Yellow Jackets 54-42
Game 12 – Perryville, MO 54, Chester 42
Top seed Perryville led start to finish in their 54-42 win over the Chester Yellow Jackets in the championship game of the 50th annual Chester Invitational Tournament.
It was the second championship in a row for Perryville.
Perryville jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead and never looked back. By the end of the first quarter, the Pirates had built a 17-10 lead. After outscoring Chester 13-12 in the second, Perryville took a 30-22 lead to the locker room at halftime.
Chester made a run in the third quarter. The Yellow Jackets outscored Perryville 10-7 in the third and trailed 37-32 heading to the fourth.
The Pirates slammed the door on any possible comeback by Chester as they outscored the Yellow Jackets 17-10 en route to the 12 point decision.
Jared Thieret led Perryville with 15 points while Jake Dobbelare finished with 12. Alex Robinson tossed in nine points while Colby Brown finished with eight.
Bryce Weibrecht (7) and Cody Call (3) also scored for Perryville.
Caleb Arbeiter led Chester with a game high 16 points. Chris Schwartz and Kyle Landon each had eight points. Matt Heberlie finished with six points while Cody Mileur added four points.
Game 11 – New Athens 58, Saxony Lutheran 38
New Athens raced out to a 17-4 lead after the first quarter en route to a 58-38 decision over the Crusaders of Saxony Lutheran to win third place of the Chester Invitational Basketball Tournament.
Saxony fought back in the second quarter and outscored New Athens 15-13 but the Yellowjackets took a commanding 30-19 lead to the locker room at halftime.
Any hopes of a comeback by Saxony was squashed by New Athens in the third. The Yellowjackets outscored the Crusaders 13-6 in the quarter and took a 43-25 lead heading to the fourth quarter.
Tyler Meyer led New Athens with 20 points while Blake Ragland finished with 10 points.
Chance Wacker (9), Adam Ingles (9), Brendan Stolte (5), Jeremy Hepp (3) and Luke Marlow (2) also scored for New Athens.
Gabe Bohnert led Saxony Lutheran with 12 points while Clayton Carver finished with seven. Jack Lake (6), Nick Johnson (5), Logan Sprandel (4) and Brandon Fritsche (4) also scored for the Crusaders.
Game 10 – Valle Catholic 50, Marissa-Coulterville 49
Valle’s Alec Greminger hit a three-pointer with 1.5 seconds left to lift the Valle Catholic Warriors of Ste. Genevieve, MO to a 50-49 win over the Marissa-Coulterville Meteors.
The Meteors led 8-7 after the first quarter but then the Warriors outscored Marissa-Coulterville 21-15 in the second quarter and took a 28-23 lead to the locker room at halftime.
Valle led 43-34 heading to the fourth after outscoring Marissa-Coulterville 15-11 in the third quarter.
The Meteors made a run late in the game and took a two-point lead before Greminger hit the game winner for the Warriors.
Lincoln Stoll led the Warriors with 20 points. Jack Rozier tossed in 10 to join Stoll in double digit scoring.
Ryan Hermann (6), Jared Bruns (4), Alec Greminger (3), Parker Davis (2) and Trevor Klump (2) also scored for the Warriors.
Joey Smith led Marissa-Coulterville with a game high 25 points while Lucas Baird finished with 12.
Austin Place (8) and Vince Greer (3) also scored for the Meteors.
Game 9 – Dongola 49, Elverado 39
In the seventh place game of the 50th annual Chester Invitational Boys Basketball Tournament Saturday, the Dongola Demons rallied in the second half and beat Elverado 49-39.
The Falcons jumped out to a 10-9 lead after the first quarter and then outscored the Demons in the second quarter 8-4 to take an 18-13 lead to the locker room at halftime.
But the Demons woke up in the second half.
Dongola outscored Elverado 18-10 in the third quarter and took a 31-28 lead heading to the fourth quarter, a lead they wouldn’t relinquish the rest of the game.
Austin Hinkle led Dongola with a game high 23 points. Tyler Eddleman finished with 10.
Brock Patterson (4), Jordan Eads (4), Darius Schauer (4) and Uriah Holmes (2) also scored for Dongola.
Andrew Jeschke led Elverado with 15 points while Dalton Porter added nine points. Kyle Whittington (6), Wade Bowlin (5) and Casey Hicks (4) also scored for the Falcons.
